Is Rejuran Painful? What to Know Before Your First Appointment
Rejuran, also known as PN or Polynucleotide therapy, has gained popularity for its regenerative power, especially in delicate areas like under the eyes, cheeks, and neck. One of the most common questions we get at TT Aesthetics Docklands is:
"How painful is Rejuran, really?"
The short answer: it can be painful, and that’s completely normal.
Let’s break down why it hurts, and more importantly, what we can do to make it much more manageable.
Why Is Rejuran Painful?
Rejuran isn’t your average skin booster. It is injected directly into the dermis, the middle layer of the skin where many nerve endings are located. This layer also contains tiny blood vessels and connective tissue, which makes it more sensitive to needle entry.
Unlike superficial treatments like microneedling or mesotherapy, Rejuran requires precise placement in the dermis using micro-injections. This means:
The product needs to be deposited with control, not just superficially spread
Pain is actually a sign that the product is being injected into the correct depth
So yes, if it stings, it’s working.
What Does It Feel Like?
Most patients describe Rejuran as:
Sharp and stingy during injection
A tight, prickling sensation that lingers for a few minutes
More intense in sensitive areas like under the eyes and temples
The good news is that the procedure is very quick, and the discomfort only lasts a few seconds per injection point.
What Can Be Done to Manage the Pain?
At TT Aesthetics, we take pain seriously and offer multiple layers of pain control to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
Compounded Medical-Grade Numbing Cream
We use a stronger, pharmacy-compounded topical anaesthetic, far more potent than over-the-counter options. You can also arrive early to allow the numbing cream to sit longer, ideally 30 to 45 minutes, for maximum effect.
Oral Analgesics
Paracetamol or ibuprofen taken about 30 minutes before your appointment can help reduce discomfort and post-treatment inflammation. Always consult with our team or your GP first.
Distraction Tools and Soothing Techniques
We use cold rollers, air cooling, and vibration tools to help distract the nerves. Guided breathing techniques are also encouraged to reduce pain perception during the procedure.
Anti-Anxiety Medication
For very anxious patients, Dr Tony can prescribe a mild oral anxiolytic to be taken under supervision before your treatment. This can help calm the nervous system and reduce overall sensitivity to pain.
What About Sedation?
In countries like Korea, light sedation, twilight sedation, or even general anaesthesia are sometimes used for Rejuran procedures, especially when treating large areas or combining treatments.
In Australia, these sedation methods are highly regulated and generally not allowed in cosmetic medical settings due to safety risks associated with anaesthesia outside of hospitals. However, regulations may evolve in the future to make more advanced pain relief options available in-clinic.
Final Thoughts
Rejuran is meant to sting because it works where it matters most—in the dermis, where true skin repair begins. But that does not mean the experience has to be uncomfortable. At TT Aesthetics, we offer a tailored pain management approach to support even the most sensitive clients.
Whether it's stronger numbing agents, anxiety support, or upcoming options like nitrous oxide, we are committed to providing a comfortable, effective Rejuran journey from start to finish.
