Non-Surgical Liquid Rhinoplasty for a Dorsal Hump: Does It Work?

A dorsal hump is that bump you see on the bridge of your nose when you look at your face from the side. It's one of the most common things people want to change about their nose. For a long time, the only option was surgery. But now, non-surgical rhinoplasty can deal with it surprisingly well, at least for the right people.

How Does the Treatment Smooth Out a Bump?

Here's the thing: the treatment doesn't actually remove the bump. It camouflages it.

During the procedure, a cosmetic injectable is carefully placed above and below the dorsal hump. This evens out the dips around it so the bridge of the nose looks smooth and straight. The bump is still there underneath, but you can't see it anymore.

A simple way to picture it: imagine filling in a pothole on a road instead of digging the road flat. The surface looks even, even though the structure underneath hasn't changed.

What Do the Results Look Like?

For small to medium bumps, the results can be surprisingly dramatic. A lot of people are genuinely taken aback by how different their profile looks after a treatment that takes less than half an hour.

You'll see a difference straight away, though the final result settles over one to two weeks as any swelling goes down. Most people find their results last somewhere between 12 and 24 months, depending on the product used and how quickly their body breaks it down.

When the Treatment Might Not Be Enough

If the bump is large or really prominent, the non-surgical approach on its own might not cut it. The problem is that you'd need to add so much volume to mask a big bump that the nose could end up looking bulky or out of proportion.

In those cases, surgical rhinoplasty is still the better option. A surgeon can physically shave down the bone and cartilage to reduce the bump permanently.

That said, if you're on the fence about surgery, a non-surgical nose job can be a good way to "preview" what a straighter profile might look like. Since the results are temporary and can be reversed, it's low-risk.

Why the Practitioner Matters

The nose is one of the trickiest areas to treat. There are a lot of blood vessels packed into a small space, and getting the placement wrong can lead to serious problems. Treating a dorsal hump takes precise technique to get a smooth, natural result without adding unnecessary bulk.

This is why choosing someone experienced and qualified makes a real difference. It's not a treatment to shop around for the cheapest price on.
