Rejuran Under the Eyes: What It Can and Cannot Do
If you have been researching skin treatments recently, you have probably come across the name Rejuran. It has gained a huge following in South Korea and is now one of the fastest-growing skin treatments in Australia. But what exactly is it, and why is it generating so much interest?
The Three Causes of Under-Eye Darkness
There are three main reasons the under-eye area can look dark, hollow, or tired, and they each respond to different things.
The first is thin, poor-quality skin. As the skin under the eye loses collagen and becomes more transparent, the blood vessels and muscle underneath become visible. The result is a dark, bruised appearance that no amount of sleep or concealer fully addresses.
The second is volume loss. The fat pads under the eyes and in the upper cheek shrink and descend with age, creating a hollow groove (the tear trough) that casts a shadow. This is a structural problem rather than a skin-quality one.
The third is pigmentation. Some people, particularly those with darker skin tones, have increased melanin production in the periorbital area. This creates a brownish or greyish discolouration that's independent of skin thickness or volume.
Most people have a combination of these factors, which is why one treatment rarely fixes everything.
What Rejuran Does for the Under-Eye Area
Rejuran is a polynucleotide treatment. It works by stimulating the skin's own repair processes: promoting collagen production, improving skin thickness, reducing inflammation, and strengthening the tissue. It is a TGA-confirmed Class III medical device.
For the under-eye area, Rejuran I (a formulation specifically designed for this region) is most effective when the primary driver is thin, poor-quality skin. By improving the thickness and health of the skin, it reduces the transparency that makes blood vessels and muscle visible. Over a course of sessions, the under-eye area can look less dark, less crepey, and more hydrated.
What Rejuran Will Not Do
Rejuran does not add volume. If your dark circles are primarily caused by a deep tear trough or significant hollowing, Rejuran alone will not fill that space. Volume restoration is a separate treatment with a different mechanism.
Rejuran has limited impact on melanin-based pigmentation. If the darkness under your eyes is caused by excess pigment deposits in the skin, other treatments (such as topical lightening agents or specific laser treatments) may be more appropriate.
It will not produce a dramatic, overnight transformation. Rejuran works gradually over multiple sessions as the skin repairs and rebuilds. Expect subtle, cumulative improvement rather than an instant fix.

Who Should Avoid This Treatment
Rejuran may not be suitable for people with active skin infections or inflammation in the treatment area, autoimmune conditions that affect wound healing, a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, known hypersensitivity to polynucleotides or salmon-derived products, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your practitioner will assess your medical history during a consultation before any treatment proceeds.
Alternatives
Depending on the cause of your under-eye concerns, alternatives may include volume restoration for structural hollowing, topical treatments for mild pigmentation, laser or light-based treatments for skin quality and pigmentation, microneedling for texture improvement, or simply doing nothing. Dark circles are a cosmetic concern, not a medical one, and choosing not to treat them is a completely valid option.
Individual results vary. What works well for one person may not be the right approach for another, and outcomes depend on the underlying cause, your skin type, and how your body responds to treatment.
A consultation with a qualified practitioner is the best starting point. They can assess your individual situation, explain the risks and benefits, and help you decide whether treatment is appropriate for you.
TT Aesthetics offers Rejuran treatments at our Docklands, Melbourne clinic. Our practitioners assess the underlying cause of your under-eye concerns before recommending whether treatment is appropriate.
